  • What are the big six film companies?

  • -Warner Bros.
    -20th Century Fox.
    -Paramount Pictures
    -Universal Pictures.
    -Sony Pictures Entertainment
    -Walt Disney Studios.
    • Which films are on general release? Think of the school holidays.
Many films are released during the school holidays, this is due to many more people being available to going to watch the film than if they were at work or school. A lot of films are released around winter and spring time because this is when the weather isn't the best therefore parents will want to take their children to do something indoors rather than outside.
    • How many are sequels?
Captain America and Finding Dory are sequels.
    • How many are blockbusters aimed at a younger audience?
Jungle Book and Finding Dory are both blockbusters that are aimed at a younger audience. Jungle Book is a remake of the original cartoon which was aimed at a cartoon audience and then Finding Dory was a sequel of the original film Finding Nemo which was also aimed at a younger audience.
    • How many were produced by the big six?
All of the films above were produced by the big six.

    • How many different formats are there? Name them:
There are a variety of different formats that films are shown to audiences in, these are: 2D, 3D, 4D/IMAX.
Captain America: Civil War was shown in: 2D, 3D and IMAX.
Finding Dory was shown in: 2D, 3D and IMAX.
The Jungle Book was shown in: 2D, 3D and IMAX.

    • What kind of films seem to be missing?
When I compared the top 5 grossing films next to each other it showed that a variety of films are missing from the list. For example some teen films were missing such as: The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns, 'chick flick' films such as Mean Girls and White Chicks weren't in the list. The list also didn't have any sad or horror films.
    • How many of the film distributors seem to be producers as well?
All of these films seem to have the same distributors and producers:
    Finding Dory: Walt Disney
    The Jungle Book: Walt Disney
The Secret Life of Pets: Universal

    • What do you think are the target audiences for these?
The target audience for these films are mainly 3-18 year olds, however some films are aimed at specific audiences for example: Finding Dory would be aimed at the older end of the young age group such as 7 and above, and then The Secret Life of Pets would be aimed at 3-8 year olds.
