Disability

Mise en scene in this clip:
The lighting in this clip is quite dull, this could represent the able brother's life as he is always looking after his disabled brother. The main actors in the clip are teenagers, these are usually seen as not reliable for example he leaves the boy on his own and potentially puts him in danger and goes off with his friend to a party, this could usually happen with carers of disabled people as it may get too much for them sometimes, especially for him as he is only a kid himself. There is no makeup worn throughout the clip and represents innocence of both the disabled and abled characters. There is half and half sides of the bedroom, the disabled boys side is very bright and colourful which shows that he is happy and content with his life where as his brothers side is quite dull and dark which shows he is not happy because he has t look after his brother all the time. At the bus stop the disabled boy is playing with his slinky toy which shows he has a child's mind we know this because his brother who isn't disabled is not playing with any toys. The scene on the bus shows a big contrast between disabled and abled people, this is because the disabled boy is sitting all alone and holding on really tight and then the more abled people are all standing up and having  laugh and a giggle around him. The disabled boy isn't really too bothered about what he is wearing which could show that his world is a lot smaller as he doesn't care how he comes across, again this is like a child's mind as they don't care what they wear.
Sound in this clip:
In the kitchen scene the disabled boy doesn't think before he speaks. He says 'I need a poo'. This tells us that he is vulnerable an hasn't matured as a teenager. Also in the kitchen scene their parents talk calmly and soft towards the boy with down syndrome. Whereas their parents talk harshly and snap at the other brother. This shows how disabled and abled people are treated differently. The voiceover and the music are contrapuntal. The dialogue in the voiceover explains how annoyed the able body boy is with his disabled brother but the music is calm and soft. During the conversations in the kitchen the abled boy talks a lot more than the disabled boy this tells us that in the real world disabled people don't really have a say in what goes on in society. The diegetic sound of the cutlery clanging against each other and the chairs scraping along the floor brings us back to the reality of them being a normal family.
Editing in this clip:
There are the two main characters in this clip and these two get the most screen time, this is because the clip is about their lives. The more able boy has more screen time than the disabled boy and this shows that the more able boy has all of the power and we know this because we see everything form his point of view. The disabled boy doesn't get to show how he sees things. Typically he doesn't get a say in what happens. The shots fade from one shot to the other, it is smooth and flows. This shows how the day gradually goes on. The more able character is very opinionated and doesn't need attention and caring like the other character.
Camera shots in this clip:
The first shot in the clip is a birds eye view, this could show the rooms structure and the two characters split personalitiesThere is a low angle shot when the more able boy is about to leave the disabled boy, this could be to show he's more immature and unworthy. There is a 180 pan, a tracking shot, the second shot of him on his bed, shows his brain thinking and moving from point to point. There is a zoom on the boy in bed, this could be to show his purity and how innocent his intentions are. The close up shot on the bus show the audience that changes stress him out and the close shot shows how stressed he is and how he is struggling with the journey home as he has never had to do it on his own before.

Waterloo Road clip

In todays lesson we focused on a clip from Waterloo Road, the focus was on the representation of age.
In the clip the first shot we see is in the main hall of the school, in this scene we see two students getting in trouble by an older teacher because they broke a camera, this shows that teenagers are more careless and aren't really too bothered about breaking other people's property. It is clear that the teacher is very patronising towards the students and this shows that he believes he is much better and wiser than they are due to this age and position in the school.

In another scene we see a girl attacking a boy, this is different to what we would see adults doing and this shows to the audience roughly how old the students are. Within this scene we see the boy have an asthma attack due to him being in an argument with the girl, this could show that teenagers aren't as strong as older people and are quite weak.

Due to the way that the teenagers are dressed we can see that they are school children and roughly how old they are (14-16), it is clear to see the difference from the teachers and the students in the clip because of the costumes, for example the teenage girls are wearing the stereotypical short skirts whereas the teachers are wearing trousers.

The way that the teachers talk to the children throughout clip is quite sarcastic as if they are little kids and this shows that the older people feel that they have  a lot of power over the younger people.
We see the girl getting quite upset over her family problems which again could show weakness in younger people as maybe an adult would just brush that off.

In another scene we see a pregnant girl who doesn't seem very happy about her situation, this could compare to an adult not making this mistake that she has made so again shows that teenagers aren't as clued up as adults.
